What I Offer – An Overview
Every human has these automatic body responses – fight, flight & freeze. They are a built-in safety system in the brain/body, part of what is known as the autonomic nervous system. This amazing internal alarm system is designed to protect you and keep you away from harm. You absolutely need these survival instincts. Infact you could not live without them.
What we do not need is for this alarm system to be switched on 24/7.
This internal safety system should reset to normal once a stressor, threat or harmful event is over. Our bodies and brains should return to a calm, balanced and regulated state where all our systems (digestive, immune, hormonal, muscular, cardiovascular, endocrine) and our cognitive functioning (thinking) are harmonious.
Unfortunately, if we stay activated in the fight, flight, freeze survival states, our stress hormones – adrenaline and cortisol get depleted and overtaxed.
Many of us are constantly switched ON in this active state. It’s fair to say that most of us are not living a low stress lifestyle in our modern times.
Then you add into the mix, trauma from accidents, surgeries, bumps and falls, dental work, early childhood challenges and abuse, bullying, emotionally detached parents or carers, overly angry, unpredictable & verbally abusive adult caregivers – and a home life that never felt safe, supportive, nourishing. That’s what provides the perfect circumstances for being wired into survival mode 24/7.
Survival or shock stress is essentially trapped trauma within our nervous system.
When these scary, traumatic, threatening, unpleasant things happen be they overtly physical or emotional in nature – the system literally logs them in our cellular memory. That’s trauma. That’s what we call PTSD, Complex PTSD, Childhood PTSD or Survival Stress. It literally all is the same thing to our bodies and brains.
As the latest scientific research is revealing there is a strong connection between stuck trauma in our nervous systems and a whole list of many recognisable biological conditions and psychological behaviours. These include:

A dysregulated system means we are operating from limited capacity. Our physical and mental resources are being used to survive instead of to thrive. Feeling peaceful, connected & happy are not physical or emotional states we can readily access for sustained periods of time when we are stuck in survival mode.
We can carry on for a long time with a dysregulated nervous system and the unhealthy thinking and behaviours that are a predictable, but maladaptive result of dysregulation. Eventually, it will catch up with even the most robust of us. Certainly, this was the case for me.
But, it doesn’t have to be that way.
The good news is you do not need to continue to suffer or live a half life. When we start to heal at this deep nervous system level we begin to break up the stuck stress and process it out of our system.
Over time we absolutely can re-regulate both our biology and psychology so we feel and think more clearly, calmly, responsibly.
We want to undertake this work to become healthy. Really healthy. Truly healthy. To nurture our system and restore capacity & resilience. The literal space, body and mind to bounce back from the stresses and strains life throws at each of us on a daily basis.
A capacity that means we are not always shutting down, shrinking away or feeling overwhelmed.
As balance is restored, we feel more content, engaged & good about ourselves. We grow our ability to feel emotions more fully, to articulate our feelings clearly, easily. We are able to establish healthy habits that support our continued change and transformation.
Life feels simpler, more purposeful, there is joy. We activate our ‘Growth Mindset’, becoming more flexible & adaptable body and mind. There is a sense of vitality once more. We radiate natural confidence and high self-esteem. All of this is a result of nervous system re-regulation.
I am not going to pretend it’s easy. Our brain resists change, it likes to keep us in familiar patterns, even if these are not healthy for us.
We have to reverse engineer our healing.
Resetting our nervous system is a process which requires commitment, patience and compassion for yourself. I know it is easier said than done, but this is what worked for me after nearly 30 years of anxiety resulting from my childhood emotional trauma. It works for everyone who commits to it fully and completely.
